Fred Werner (interview): “We created AI for good in 2017, and if you think about it, that’s an eternity in terms of AI years, right, because AI is moving so fast. Back then, it was all about the fear, the hype, and the promise of AI. The use cases were there, but the technology wasn’t really there, right? But what we see now, and this has accelerated super quickly, as we’ve gone through the phases of generative AI around 2023, and then now the rise of AI agents. I think we’re now entering what I would call a zero-click world where we’re not… AI agents are not waiting for our prompts, but they’re actually acting on our behalf, autonomously. And then looking at the more physical manifestation of AI in the form of advanced robotics, autonomous mobility, brain-computer interfaces, and even space computing.”

Rotem Kopel (interview): “We give back people capacities and functionality that they’ve lost. So for patients like ALS, stroke, spinal cord injuries, they lose the capacity to communicate, to speak, or to move. And in Ability Neurotech, with the brain implants, meaning that device, we implant it in the brain, we record brain functions that are completely intact. We extract this information out, and with really unique AI capacities we can reconstruct what they were intending to do.”

Kim Jongwon (interview): “This robot helps people, especially for the elderly and muscle-weakened patients. So this gives a hip assistance force. So we use AI to customise and optimise the control algorithms, especially for the people with gait disabilities.”

Adwait Shinde (interview): “We have developed a proof-of-concept prototype for a wheelchair that can be controlled with the help of EMG sensors, which detects your muscle activity, microphone, which detects your speech, and hand gestures that uses a local AI model for recognizing what the user wants to do.”

Adwait Shinde (interview): “So since this is a medical device, we do not want the user data to go to the cloud or online. That’s why we are using a local AI model, which runs locally on a Jetson board. And then it uses that local AI to transform those gestures into an actual wheelchair movement.”
