Influencers and content creators have caused some noise problems at the US Open, raising concerns about tennis etiquette. The number of content creators permitted to cover the tournament has doubled from last year. Officials have warned influencers and fans about making noise and using lights during matches.

Chair umpires have stopped people from recording videos during certain parts of the games and using bright lights for photos. Naomi Osaka said creators can help make tennis popular with new audiences, but they need to understand and follow the sport’s rules. Other players, including Katerina Siniakova and Coco Gauff, also said fans should stay quiet when players are serving or playing.

The U.S. Tennis Association began inviting content creators last year to help reach more people. The association says new audiences are important for the sport’s growth. To help solve the noise problem, some creators are sharing advice about tennis etiquette. Madison Appel, a college tennis player and influencer, said people should take photos only when players are resting and the stadium is lively. The US Open has also added messages asking fans not to use flash photography or other lighting.
