IN MY OPINION

Tolerance for All
by S. McGreg

Yet again this month there was a mass shooting in our country. Yet again innocent people lost their lives. Yet again the mass media is replaying the video of the incident over and over. Yet again there are people calling for laws to make it harder to buy guns.

While I can understand why some people think stricter laws are the answer, I personally am very against them.  The right to bear arms is one of our constitutional rights as Americans. If they take that right away, we will lose the only chance we have of being able to protect ourselves from the people who might pose a threat to us.

I own a gun – three guns, in fact – but I use them for hunting and self-defense. Our campus is one of the few in the state where you can do open carry, and I proudly do so. Am I going to shoot up my class? Absolutely not! But you would not believe the hatred that is yelled at me as I walk to class with my gun. In this age of political correctness, where is the tolerance for gun owners? It’s not okay to yell racist terms and other offensive things, but for some reason, it’s okay to call me names just for carrying a gun. That seems like a double standard to me!

If you agree that this is wrong, join the campus gun club’s demonstration next Saturday at 10 am.
