There have been a number of incidents of Japanese hotels and restaurants intentionally mislabeling their products to make it seem like they were made of high-quality ingredients.

The term an honest mistake refers to an error that was done innocently. This term is often used defensively when others accuse someone of doing something on purpose.

 

A: You deleted that file on purpose! You knew it would mess up my project!

B: No, I swear it was an honest mistake! I didn’t think you needed it anymore!
