I. Read the explanations.

    1. Just a heads up is used to give someone an early warning about something.

     

    Just a heads up: I might ask you to help me with my project next week.

     

     

    2. FYI stands for for your information. It’s used to share information that doesn’t require any action.

     

    FYI: I’m coming home late today.

     

     

    3. Just between you and me is used to say that the information you’re about to share should be kept secret.

     

    Just between you and me, I think Gina is going to quit this week!

  • Introduce Part II.
    • “Okay, now let’s do Part II.”
  • Read the instructions.
  • Read the first announcement.
  • Have the student give an answer using the expressions.
    • The student doesn’t have to talk a lot. We just want to test their understanding of the expressions.
    • Student’s answers may vary. Accept any reasonable answers.
  • Repeat Steps 9-10 with the remaining announcements.
  • Transition to the next part.
    • “Good job! Let’s go to the next part!”

When two words are connected by and, the word and is often pronounced as /n/.

It’s becoming more and more common for native speakers to use acronyms, new words formed from the first letter of every word in a phrase, in spoken conversations. Common examples of acronyms are BTW for by the way, OMG for oh my God, LOL for laugh out loud, and ASAP for as soon as possible.
