Use prepositional phrases as adjectives to modify nouns.

Unlike regular adjectives, prepositional phrases usually go after nouns.

The large statue was very expensive.

The statue across from the building was very expensive.

  • The house next to the pond was built in 1885.
  • The building opposite the stadium is my office.
  • The small park behind the trees is my favorite place.
  • I think the Izumo Grand Shrine in Shimane Prefecture is Japan’s oldest shrine.
