READING

The two couples decided to go to the Blue Pearl Resort on Coron Island. Haru is reading a travel guide.

MANILA TO CORON ISLAND (BLUE PEARL RESORT)

Travel time: around 4 hours

There are no flights that go directly to Coron Island. First, you have to fly to Busuanga, the town next to Coron.  Then, you need to get to the town center from the airport. It takes about 45 minutes. You can rent a car and drive to the town center, but it’s cheaper and more convenient to take a jeepney. When you get there, walk to the port and take a boat to Coron Island. Get off at the island port. Finally, take a tricycle to the Blue Pearl Resort.

TRIVIA

The Philippines has a lot of unique and colorful transportation such as tricycles and jeepneys. In some places, there are even horse-drawn carriages called calesas.

CHALLENGE

Challenge 1

You are staying at the Central Hotel in Baguio City. Your friend is staying in Manila for the night and will join you in Baguio City tomorrow.

Read the travel guide below. Then, tell your friend how to get to the hotel.

Today's grammar tip

  • first
  • then/next/after that
  • finally

The Central Hotel

The Central Hotel is a very convenient place to stay in Baguio. It’s near tourist spots like Burnham Park and Baguio Museum. Also, it’s so easy to get there from Manila! First, take a jeepney to the Cubao Bus Terminal in Quezon City. Then, take a bus to Baguio City. The bus ride usually takes six or seven hours. Get off at the Baguio City Bus Terminal, then walk to the main street. Finally, take a jeepney to the Central Hotel. You can walk to the hotel from the bus terminal too, but my husband and I both highly recommend the jeepney – it’s cheap, fun, and the breeze is refreshing!
