Use would like to politely say what someone wants.

  • I would like a shoulder massage.
  • She would like a pedicure.

You can also use the contracted form in speech or casual writing.

  • I’d like a facial.
  • She’d like a smoothie.

Saori and her mom are at a spa in South Korea.

Staff:

Welcome to the Pyeonghwa Spa! How can I help you?

Mom:

I’d like a massage. What kind of body massages do you have?

Staff:

We have foot and shoulder massages.

Mom:

Great! I’d like a shoulder massage. Do you have anyone who’s good at shiatsu?

Staff:

Yes, we do! All of our staff are very good at shiatsu. And how about you, ma’am? What would you like?

Saori:

Hmm… I’d like a facial, please.

Staff:

Okay. Anything else?

Saori:

Oh, and I’d like a manicure too. Thank you!

TRIVIA

Many Japanese words like shiatsu have entered the English language. Bonsai, sumo, manga, anime, tempura, samurai, origami, koi, haiku, and many other Japanese words can be found in English dictionaries.
