STEP B GRAMMAR TIP

Use go + (verb) + -ing to talk about activities that people do for fun.

go + sightsee + -ing

go sightseeing

go + snorkel + -ing

go snorkeling

  • Let’s go sightseeing tomorrow!

For verbs that end in e, cut the e and add -ing.

go + hike + -ing

go hiking

go + bike + -ing

go biking

  • I go hiking every month.

Be careful: Some verbs need a double consonant in their -ing form.

go + shop + -ing

go shopping

go + jog + -ing

go jogging

  • They went shopping last weekend.

READING

Saori and her family are going to take a tour of Okinawa for her 30th birthday. She’s reading about extra tour options online.

TRIVIA

Do you know how to say zeinuki (税抜) and zeikomi (税込) in English? For zeinuki (税抜), you can say plus tax or tax not included. For zeikomi (税込), you can say tax included.
