STEP B GRAMMAR TIP

Use go + (verb) + -ing to talk about activities that people do for fun.

go + sightsee + -ing

go sightseeing

go + snorkel + -ing

go snorkeling

  • Let’s go sightseeing tomorrow!

For verbs that end in e, cut the e and add -ing.

go + hike + -ing

go hiking

go + bike + -ing

go biking

  • I go hiking every month.

Be careful: Some verbs need a double consonant in their -ing form.

go + shop + -ing

go shopping

go + jog + -ing

go jogging

  • They went shopping last weekend.

READING

Saori and her family are going to take a tour of Okinawa for her 30th birthday. She’s reading about extra tour options online.

Go sightseeing around this beautiful castle. See the king’s throne room and experience a traditional tea ceremony. You can also visit the nearby temples and museums.

Go sailing around Okinawa’s clear waters. You can ride a sailboat and go fishing for gurukun and other tropical fish. This tour package includes fishing equipment and basic fishing lessons.

TRIVIA

Do you know how to say zeinuki (税抜) and zeikomi (税込) in English? For zeinuki (税抜), you can say plus tax or tax not included. For zeikomi (税込), you can say tax included.
