Use be going to (verb) to talk about future plans.

  • He’s going to take a tour of Osaka.
  • They’re going to get married next month.

You can also use be going to (verb) to talk about forecasts or predictions.

  • We’re going to arrive at 10 p.m.
  • I’m going to pass the exam.

Saori’s thirtieth birthday is coming up, so her mom planned a family trip to celebrate it.

TRIVIA

You can call someone’s 30th birthday the big 3-0 (“three-oh”). Similarly, you can call someone’s 40th and 50th birthdays the big 4-0 (“four-oh”) and the big 5-0 (“five-oh”). These birthdays are special because they mark a new decade in someone’s life.
