STEP B GRAMMAR TIP

Use simple present tense to talk about facts or routine.

Use the dictionary form of the verb with I, you, we, and they.

  • I wake up at 7 a.m.
  • You wash the dishes.
  • We make waffles.
  • They eat breakfast every day.

For negative sentences, add don’t before the verb.

  • I don’t wake up at 7 a.m.

Use the dictionary form of the verb plus -s or -es with he, she, and it. Be careful of exceptions like has.

  • He wakes up at 7 a.m.
  • She washes the dishes.
  • It makes waffles.
  • He has tea.

For negative sentences, add doesn’t before the dictionary form of the verb.

  • He doesn’t wake up at 7 a.m.

Be careful to use the correct possessive adjective.
