Use can to talk about someone’s abilities.

  • I can play the piano.
  • She can sing well.

For negative sentences, use can’t.

  • Eric can’t play the guitar.
  • He can’t keep a beat.

You can also use can to ask and answer questions.

  • Can you read sheet music?
    – Yes, I can.
    – No, I can’t.
