Use before and after to explain the order of events.
before と after を使って、出来事の前後関係を表すことができます。

You can use because, before, and after at the beginning of sentences* or between clauses.
because, before, after は、文頭*や節と節の間で使うことができます。（節：＜主語＋動詞＞を含む語句のあつまり）

*use a comma when they’re used at the beginning of sentences

*because などの接続詞からはじまる節を文頭に置くときは、節の終わりにコンマを入れましょう

Because I’m sick, I can’t go to the party.

私は体調が悪いのでパーティには行けません。

I can’t go to the party because I’m sick.

私は体調が悪いのでパーティには行けません。

Before I went to work, I took a shower.

私は仕事に行く前にシャワーを浴びました。

I took a shower before I went to work.

私は仕事に行く前にシャワーを浴びました。

After I ate breakfast, I brushed my teeth.

私は朝食を食べた後に歯磨きをしました。

I brushed my teeth after I ate breakfast.

私は朝食を食べた後に歯磨きをしました。

Be careful: You cannot use so at the beginning of sentences. Always use it between clauses.

注意：so は文頭では使えません。常に節と節の間で使いましょう。

So I went home, I didn’t feel well.

（間違った文なので日本語訳はありません）

I didn’t feel well, so I went home.

私は体調が悪かったので家に帰りました。
