The 17-year-old Nokia 3310 is making its comeback, but industry experts are not sure if it will meet its expected sales.

The original Nokia 3310 gained popularity in the early 2000s because of its durability, its 260-hour battery life in standby mode, and the classic game Snake.

The new version, which will be released by mid-2017, retains most of its original design but offers new features. It now has a camera, a micro-SD slot, and 2G Internet connectivity. Its battery was also upgraded to a battery life of 30 days on standby, which is equivalent to 22 hours’ worth of calls. Snake is also still part of the package.

While the original model sold around 126 million units, some are doubtful if the new version will sell. Telecommunications experts said that young customers will still prefer smartphones over the simplicity of the Nokia 3310. They also emphasized that classic phones will not sell because the technology industry thrives on innovation.

However, a sociologist argued that the new Nokia 3310 will sell precisely because it is a classic. He said that people view simplicity as a desirable trait and that the youth may be curious enough to buy the new Nokia 3310.

The return of the Nokia 3310 has started a discussion about old models that should also make a comeback. Among those mentioned is the Motorola Razr /ˈreɪ zər/ V3, a flip phone that had a slim keypad. Another is the Nokia N-Gage /ˈɛn geɪdʒ/ , which looked like a game console and had a card slot for games.

While these old phones did not last long in the market, they are now considered rare and can be sold for a good price.
